| We are dedicated to producing, by hand,
work crafted with an eye to design integrity and high quality
craftsmanship, following the ideals of the Arts
and Crafts movement. We use the best materials we can find:
bombyx and tussah silk yarns and fabrics, fine beads, environment-friendly
dyes. We take our time over each piece and
collection. We specialize in one-of-a-kind pieces for people who will appreciate that they have made an investment both in
an object and in a philosophy.
We support the following philosophy of William Morris: ''I do not want art for a few, any more than education for a few or freedom for a few''. However, we realize, as did Morris, that our work is most often purchased by and for the wealthy and considered ‘luxury’. We realize that when someone decides to spend money on one of our products, it is a decision not to spend that money to provide food, medicine, housing or education for the millions of people who are less fortunate in the world. We believe that these two goals of supporting the arts and of supporting those who are less fortunate do not have to be mutually exclusive. It is necessary to cultivate fine arts and craftsmanship of all kinds. It is also necessary to share our bounty with others. Therefore, each year we contribute an additional percentage of our profits to a charity whose focus is providing food, medicine, housing or education to people around the world who are less fortunate than we. In this way we hope to make the world a better place by raising both the standard of living and the standard of fine craftsmanship. 2002 -2007: additional profits went to the Perpetual Education Fund, the Monroe County Community Kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, Greene County Food Bank and to Operation Migration [because we want to save the planet, too.] .
